About Selden NY

Selden is a hamlet in the town of Brookhaven in Suffolk County, NY As of a 2019 census it has an approximate population of 20,093 residents. The area that is now known as Selden was originally called “Westfield” or sometimes “Westfields”. In 1852 the Post Office was opened, but the name “Westfield” was already in use in upstate NY and an upstate attorney named Henry Selden promised to do “something handsome” for the town if it was named after him. The name was adopted by it is unknown if Selden ever made good on his promise. Selden is bordered by the Suffolk County municipalities of Coram, Farmingville, Centereach and Terryville.
