About Rocky Point NY

Rocky Point is a hamlet and census designated place in the town of Brookhaven in Suffolk County, NY . As of a 2020 census it has an approximate population of 13,138 residents. Rocky Point is the site of where RCA once operated a large transmitting and transmitter research facility known as “Radio Central”. RCA began transmitting trans-atlantic radio messages from Radio Central after its opening in 1921. The Rocky Point site was decomissioned in 1978 and demolished in the 1980s. Rocky Point was presumably named for its location and terrain. It is located on the North Shore of Long Island, next to Shoreham, East Shoreham, Middle Island and Miller Place.
