About Hell’s Kitchen NYC
Close to the theater district on the west side of Manhattan, Hell’s Kitchen is home to many actors and arts organizations. It is also a hub of gay culture in Manhattan. Theatergoers and tourists from the Times Square area, as well as workers from the nearby skyscrapers, flood the international restaurants, bars, and pubs along the 8th and 9th avenues. Further west, along the water, Hudson River park has landscaped walkways. There are various attributions to the origin of the name “Hell’s Kitchen”, but the most likely is that it is named for a similar area in London known as “Hell’s Kitchen”. The boundaries of the area known as Hell’s Kitchen are generally said to be 34th to 59th Streets, and 8th Avenue to the Hudson River.
